Day 2: Black & White Colobus monkey trek and Canopy Walk trail
After a relaxed breakfast, head to the Gisakura information center for a briefing and to meet your guide for the Black & White Colobus monkey trek.
Later, go on an escorted hike in search of large groups of Black and White Colobus monkeys; commonly referred to as ‘Rwenzori Colobus’, living in sizeable groups, including one of the habituated troops numbering up to more than 300.
Return to your hotel for lunch in the afternoon and later enjoy the famous Canopy walk. The aerial walkway is tremendous. One can say you don’t do the canopy walk to observe birds or monkeys because you feel like you are in space. You will be mid-air, and you do it for the thrill of walking across a void in a narrow metal trough, with wire netting on both sides, swinging gently as you cross a chasm. Looking down on the forested hillsides, the views are amazing. You can see Lake Kivu glimmering in the distance while facing you are the mountains which form the border of Burundi. It spans a 90m-long, suspended between 70m-high aluminum towels.
Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
